Greetings everyone, it has been a week of highs and lows and the important things in life are certainly in focus.

As you are likely aware, our inaugural Cops for Cancer golf tournament last Thursday was a smashing success, and while I don't have the exact total yet, it pleases me greatly to announce Bowen Island raised $20,000 that day. Tomorrow, I leave for Vancouver to start the Tour de Coast, a 600 km ride which will start in Whistler and make its way to Bowen on September 29th.

I'll have a friend, Amy Kerr who I used to lifeguard and teach swimming lessons with on my mind. Amy died on September 20th, age 30 years, leaving behind a beautiful 2 year old daughter and loving husband. Amy died of colon cancer. This disease doesn't discriminate.....women, children, our mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters. This is one reason I must be a part of this cause. I have to do something more than 'hope' for a cure.

I want to thank everybody for their support of my campaign to raise $10,000 for the charity, as you can see, we've done well against that total. My heartfelt thanks to everybody for helping in every way, whether donating money, their time, their support and words of encouragement, each and every person on this rock should be proud of how as a community we've rallied behind this cause.

As I slip in to my spandex tomorrow morning and take that first pedal-stroke, I'll be eagerly awaiting our team's arrival on Bowen on September 29th off the 10:00 ferry. I look forward to seeing everybody at BICS at 11:00 that day to present plaques of appreciation on behalf of the Canadian Cancer Society.

See you in a few days,

Mike
